India vs Sri Lanka: 2023 Asia Cup cricket final – as it happened

India clinch eighth Asia Cup title with 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka

India bowled out Sri Lanka for a paltry 50 in 15.2 overs and chased down the target in just 6.1 overs. Mohammed Siraj was the star of the show with a sensational six-wicket haul, while Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill scored unbeaten half-centuries to seal the victory.

Sri Lanka collapse to their lowest total against India

The match started with Sri Lanka winning the toss and opting to bat first. However, they soon regretted their decision as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah gave India the first breakthrough in the first over, dismissing Kusal Perera for a duck. Siraj then ran through the top and middle order, taking four wickets in his first over and two more in his second spell. He finished with figures of 6 for 21, the best by an Indian bowler in Asia Cup history. Hardik Pandya also chipped in with three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav bowled a tight spell of one for one in one over.

Sri Lanka had no answer to India’s pace and spin attack and were bundled out for their lowest total in ODIs against India. Only Kusal Mendis (17) and Dushan Hemantha (13 not out) reached double digits, while six batsmen failed to open their account. Sri Lanka’s total of 50 was also the lowest in an Asia Cup final and the second-lowest in any ODI final.

India cruise to their biggest win by wickets and balls remaining

India had no trouble in chasing down the small target, as Kishan and Gill came out all guns blazing. The openers smashed nine fours and a six between them and finished the match in less than seven overs. Kishan scored 23 off 18 balls, while Gill scored 27 off 19 balls. India reached 51 for no loss in 6.1 overs, registering their biggest win by wickets and balls remaining in ODIs.

Siraj was adjudged the player of the match for his brilliant bowling performance, while Kuldeep Yadav was named the player of the series for taking nine wickets at an average of 9.55 and an economy of 3.82. India lifted their eighth Asia Cup trophy, extending their record of most titles in the tournament.
